THE BIRTH OF ANOTHER BIRD

my biggest fear is that one day
the egg in her stomach will go through
her chest up her throat and out her beak

that same shiny beak
that's already been stabbed well inside my chest

this means that the egg will go inside my body
where it will connect to my capillaries
and the surrounding tissue within my chest

the egg will get stronger
and it will grow bigger
then one day it will hatch
and with its razor sharp wings
another snipe will cut its way out of me

paralyzed and dismembered
I will be forced to spend the rest of my life
looking into her warm eyes
and accept the fact that my chest and wings
suffered from the birth of another bird
